How Do You Charge a Vibrator?
A clear guide to charging your vibrator safely and effectively — USB and magnetic charging methods, battery life tips and what to do when your vibrator won't charge.
Shop VibratorsModern vibrators use lithium-ion batteries and USB or magnetic charging — the same technology in smartphones and other devices. Looking after the battery well means your vibrator lasts longer and performs more powerfully for each session.
Types of Charging
USB charging: The most common type. A dedicated cable connects from a small port on the vibrator (often concealed under a waterproof cover) to a standard USB-A or USB-C adapter. Use the cable that came with your toy — third-party cables with mismatched specifications can damage the battery. Plug into a laptop, wall adapter or power bank. Wall adapters charge fastest. Use only a standard 5V output adapter — do not use fast chargers or adapters with output exceeding 5V.
Magnetic charging: A cable with a magnetic tip snaps onto a contact point on the vibrator without any port. This keeps the toy completely sealed and waterproof. The magnetic connection needs to be secure — hold it in place for a moment to confirm it has attached. Magnetic chargers are toy-specific and rarely interchangeable.
Battery-operated: Some vibrators still use disposable AA or AAA batteries. Remove old batteries before storage to prevent corrosion damage. Use high-quality alkaline batteries for best performance — cheap batteries reduce vibration power significantly.
How to Charge Step by Step
Step 1: Ensure your vibrator is turned off before connecting the charger. Most toys will not charge while switched on.
Step 2: Dry the toy completely — particularly around the charging port — before connecting. Any moisture near a charging port is a safety hazard.
Step 3: Connect the charging cable. For USB toys, locate the port and open any protective cover. For magnetic chargers, align the magnetic tip with the contacts on the toy. You should see a charging indicator light activate.
Step 4: Charge for the recommended duration — typically 1–2 hours for most vibrators. Many toys show a different light colour when fully charged. Avoid leaving connected for extended periods past full charge.
Step 5: Disconnect and store in a clean, dry place. Charge to at least 50% before long-term storage.

Shop VibratorsWhy Won't My Vibrator Charge?
Poor connection: The most common reason. For magnetic chargers, ensure the tip is properly aligned with the contacts and held in place. For port chargers, check the port for debris or lint — a gentle brush or puff of air can clear blockages. Try a different USB port or adapter.
Damaged cable: Charging cables for vibrators are often proprietary and fragile. Inspect the cable for damage. If damaged, contact the manufacturer for a replacement — do not attempt to use third-party cables that may not match the voltage specification.
Battery completely discharged: A completely flat lithium-ion battery sometimes does not respond immediately to charging. Leave connected for 15–20 minutes before concluding it is not charging — a deeply discharged battery may take this long to show any sign of activity.
Moisture damage: If water entered the charging port, allow the toy to dry completely in a warm room for 24–48 hours before attempting to charge again.
Battery Life Expectations
Most quality rechargeable vibrators provide 1–3 hours of use on a full charge, depending on the intensity settings used. Lower settings use less power and extend battery life; highest settings drain it faster. Over months and years of regular use, battery capacity gradually decreases — this is normal for all lithium-ion batteries. If battery performance has significantly degraded, contact the manufacturer about repair or replacement options.
